The asking bank card
A significant part of the time in front of an ATM is spent typing in
the requests and confirming the choices. Now what if it was possible to
formulate the demands *before* arriving in front of the ATM?
My
first
idea
was about
a bank card that would have a keyboard and a display, like a card-size
calculator. The user can type in his request if he wants. For example
he can key in that he wants to withdraw say $20 or he can formulate
more detailed requests, like the type of banknotes he would like, or
payments to be made to another account... Once the card is put inside
the ATM, it displays the requests, asks to type in the code number for
confirmation and performs the requested actions.
The part of the bank card that allows to make the requests would be
unencrypted and separated from the encrypted traditional chip.
The bank card can also have no keyboard and display but it can be
linked to a cell phone or such devices. Yet another possibility is that
there would be no link at all with the bank card. Another device would
be used to transmit the requests to the ATM. A simple text message can
do the job. But this may be combersome or
lack confidentiality...
